I don't even know if anyone lurks around here, but I like to keep something updated.

First bit of news, I produced, directed and edited my first documentary, OPEN A NEW WINDOW. It was screened a month ago at the Kaufman Astoria Studios, and I received good responses to it. I still have some work to do with it before I unleash it to the world, but it's summertime.....I admit, I've been lazy.

Other than that I've been working mostly on corporate videos for an investor relations firm in NYC called Trilogy Capital Partners. I did such a good job, they made me Marketing Director and Vice President of the company. It's not what I want to do forever, but it's nice to make money, get health insurance and dabble a little bit in the video world. I did get trained in Final Cut Pro, so that's a big plus as well.

As for my personal life - I've fallen even more in love with this city, New York City that is. I still live in Astoria, but now with my boyfriend of 2 years. Sometimes I just can't believe that just a few years ago I was living in Texas slaving away on Fat Girls, unhappily married....and now I have this life. It's not everything I want, but I'm very happy here.

I plan to get back into the film/doc world soon. I just want to enjoy the fruits of my labor for a while.....

Rain rain go away.......

It really doesn't rain that often in New York City, but when it does, the city goes through a depression. Away from the mad tourist trap of Times Square, most residents of NYC actually do smile, or at least a glimmer of a smile is present in their eyes......except on days like today. It's dark, wet, cold....hard to maneauver around. Everyone's faces are masked by the ill-fitting umbrellas. People tend to drop their $3.75 Starbucks coffee more easily, like I just did while trying to close the umbrella as I was going through the swivelling door. Trust me, it doesn't work easily, and I rarely get Starbucks - maybe once a month.

But, even with the hardships of the weather here and the looming winter ready to give us a bitch-slap after the very mild summer.....I still love it here. I can't imagine being anywhere else, especially in the US. And especially during this year's elections - I am happy to be among like-minded people, rather than being stuck in crimson Texas, where they actually believe all the ridiculous rumors about Obama being a hush-hush, "arab". I am related to these people who believe this!!

People often ask me if I would ever move back to Dallas, and I say HELL NO! I love my friends and family, but I say again, HELL NO. I didn't care for it much while I lived there, so of course, after living in one of the greatest cities in the world, why would I go backwards. OK, some people it's perfect for them, cheap, and all that, but for me, no.

So, I think this weather really makes me reflect on this city and makes me forgive the flaws, even on depressing days like this.

The Apple of My Eye

Hola Todos,

I am learning Spanish now - so I'll thrown in a bit of espanol every now and then......

SO - what has been going on in my life since the last post in forever?

I am still very smitten with NYC. This city is a tough city to survive in, but it just takes a lot of patience (A LOT), dedication and passion to make it. I am lucky that I have a lot of great friends who are extremely supportive and believe in me, even when at times I wasn't believing enough in myself.

By the way - you must check out the movie HOME for those of you New York City lovers - www.homethemovie.com - it's a beautiful love letter to the city, especially for those who know how tough it is to make it here. I watched the movie a couple of weeks ago with my boyfriend and the next day we walked from 215th and Broadway (up in Harlem), the tip of Manhattan all the way down to the Saten Island Ferry. It took us most of the day (10 AM to 7 PM), but we stopped along the way, had brunch, a couple of beers here and there. It was an awesome experience going through all the barrios and seeing the different cultures along the way. HIGHLY recommended to do this in the city.

Spring is here, yay! I absolutely love this time of year (when it's not raining). The winter wasn't all that bad here, but it's nice to have the sunshine and green trees back.

- What's happened since the last posting - the doc, THROUGH THICK AND THIN was picked up by 7th Art Releasing for US distribution. We're very excited about that, so it'll be coming to a theater near you sometime later this year. We just got back from the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and had a fabulous time there.

- Ash Christian, director of FAT GIRLS was nominated for a LOGO AWARD, which we are attending next week, it airs on June 7th online and on LOGO NETWORK, which is the gay network owned by MTV NETWORKS.

- Ash and I are working on another project called PETUNIA, which is sort of a sequel to FAT GIRLS - about an awkward 20 year old gay kid, Charlie Petunia, whose family owns a funeral home in NJ and moves out to NYC to explore his gayness (channelling Rodney Miller from FGs).

Not much else to report except I'm happy and love my life here in the big apple!

Adios!

- Kim

Happily Ever Astoria......

Hola,

It's been ha, so long since I posted....isn't that the start of every post lately? Well good people, I have LANDED in ASTORIA, NY as my home base, which is about 10 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the always magical NEW YORK CITY. I love it here - I'm a block away from the river and an amazing natural park. I even started riding a BIKE, which I haven't done in probaly 15 years, thanks to a special friend who encouraged me to start riding ;-)

This year has been extremely hectic and I've been enjoying a bit of peace and settling in lately. So very quickly summarizing everything - I quit my job in Santa Monica in February, sublet my apartment there for four months (until end of June), came to NY March 1st for six weeks where I worked on a documentary for the Astoria Performing Arts Center while staying with friends filming senior citizens preparing for a musical revue. We're now in editing mode. Then, end of April until the end of May, I ended up in Syracuse, NY where I line produced a feature film with Steven Bauer (Scarface, Traffic) and Bar Refaeli (Leo Dicaprio's GF). I didn't care much for Syracuse (not much to do there), but I did love the surrounding areas and natural parks....beautiful country. I also got to visit Niagra Falls - taking the boat into the falls is an incredible experience no words can sufficiently describe. Everyone must do this in their lifetime. After that, came back to NY for a week and headed back to Los Angeles to pack up my things to move out to NY. I know, I was in LA for less than a year and moved to the east coast - read my last post to understand my decision. While I was in LA for less than 2 weeks (packing was so much fun ;-)) - I went to San Francisco for the premiere of the doc with the director Sebastian Cordoba, THROUGH THICK AND THIN - which had a screening to over 700 people at the Castro Theater. It was awesome and makes me feel so good to be a part of something that is meaningful!! The film has gone on to win awards at other film festivals - very exciting.

Now, I've been here for almost 2 months - my OWN place, no roommates......I love it, my own place in 10 years since I've lived alone and it's so liberating. I never get lonely because I am so busy all the time. I love my little apartment. Rent here is much cheaper than in the city and I got really lucky.

Since I've been back, been working on development for another film with the director Dani Menkin called WISDOM OF THE PRETZEL, a remake of the Israeli cult film. Looks like it's going to be shot in the spring of next year. Lastly, also working on a Global Warming Awareness benefit with some bands in NY for Sept 8 (www.myspace.com/tempcheck) is the event.

LASTLY and NOT LEAST - FAT GIRLS is going to be in theaters in October!! It's been a LONG process, but we've finally managed to make it happen, so checkout the website for release info: www.fatgirlsmovie.com

THAT in a nutshell has been my life lately. I've also discovered some interesting bits about the city - parties at the PS1 and the Water Taxi Beach Party in Queens (ha, I know a beach in Queens, it's man-made, but the view is to die for at night)....right on the water, and postcard view of the Manhattan skyline like you've never seen before. Thanks to new friends who've been showing me around this great city.

I think that people who live in and LOVE NYC are the ones I like to be around the most. You have to look for the beauty, it's not given to you like in Santa Monica where it's all beautiful, doesn't leave anything up to the imagination......I think I'll be here for a very long time.

Puh Peace!!

LA vs NYC

I hope everyone is well and having a progressive 2007 so far!!

Los Angeles versus New York City......there is no comparison, they are NIGHT and DAY.

LA has the amazing beautiful sunny weather, the beach, Hollywood, the "beautiful" healthy people and the laid-back attitude. It's also the movie-making mecca of the world - perfect for my career.

NYC has the fast-paced life, the culture, intellectual people from all walks of life, easy public transportation, Central Park, and passion for life. And not to mention, a strong close-nit independent film community.

On the flip side, LA has the hideous traffic, hard to have a meeting with anyone outside of 5 miles, very "hollywood" attitude, not as much passion about the stories being told, intellegent cultured people. I have found this "utopic" lifestyle very boring and just a little too laid back for me. Plus it's more "studio" films out here, not as many independent filmmakers, and if there are, they are working commercial or music video and get sucked into it.

In New York, you have the extreme hot/cold weather, it's hard to get around if you're carrying anything (groceries, etc.), and the people are a bit colder there, more abrubt. Not as big of a film community, as it's more independent films rather than studio films.

Both are expensive places to live, but get more for the dollar in California than NYC in terms of living space and quality of life.

So, you're probably wondering - why this debate.......

I have lived out in Los Angles for 7 months now, and I was hesitant to live the LA lifestyle before I came, so I probably manifested this to happen anyway. So, I am finally going to follow my true heart's desire...which was to live in NYC. I tried it out once last year when I was there for 2 months during Tribeca Film Festival, but I wasn't ready yet. But after spending a total of about 5 weeks there in several visits over the past several months......I just realized more and more how much more I feel at home there and I see the opportunities there as well, even more so than LA.The kind of film career path I want and film companies I want to work with are in the BIG APPLE. Plus I have more friends there and the type of people I want to spend TIME with.

I'll keep you posted, but the move should happen very very soon!!

Still Alive in Sunny (chilly?!) California

Hello ALL and ANYONE who actually reads this blog:

I am still alive and kicking in Santa Monica, CA. I have been hibernating from everyone and even from myself. Just been a big change for me to move out to LA for the first time away from family and friends. It's been tough, but I am hanging in there. I have travelled a lot, especially to New York City, the place I love!

I just got back from Dallas and it was kind of weird being back there. OH, I should update that I got a job in Santa Monica producing and coordinating these sort of mini-documentary videos that will eventually be live on Yahoo! - Starting Dec 21, if you go to: www.capessa.com, you'll see them all there. It's alright, nothing to jump pee in my pants over, but it pays the bills, so I can't complain!

So, back to Dallas.....it was weird. Last time I was there was in August. In some ways I do miss it because it was safe. I was safe with my friends and family there, but I know moving out here was the best thing for me to do.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season and will have a prosperous new year!

Sincerely,
Kim

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://hearnoevilfilms.blogspot.com/2006/12/still-alive-in-sunny-chilly-california.html' title='Still Alive in Sunny (chilly?!) Where did the last few months go???

IF anyone is still lurking on this website, checking for updates.....I apologize profusely.

Here is a blast email that I sent out to everyone, so you can see what exactly I have been up to this year!

I sincerely apologize for being out of the loop most of this year. It's been a wild ride this year for me - my 30th year! To summarize it all the movie I produced, FAT GIRLS premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in NYC in April and it's been a whirlwind ever since. Since then, we have been in festivals all over and I have also travelled to some of the festivals. We are CLOSE to making a sale and will be working on new projects soon. In addition, I was figuring out where is the best place for me to live that will benefit my career - so it was NYC or LA.

New York City was my first choice, which I thought was the best option at the time, and after spending 2 months there this year, I decided that Los Angeles was the place for me to be at this time in my career. Since February, I have been travelling all over to New York, back to Dallas, back to New York for 6 weeks, and living in my mom's house or hotels or sublets, etc., not really having a home for a very long time.....so, June 21, I drove from Dallas to Los Angeles in a 17-foot U-Haul Truck and towed my car with my brother. A very LONG and interesting ride I must say. We decided to take the scenic route on Hwy 40 through Arizona and New Mexico, but of course with the mountains reaching 5,000 feet, I watched the gas guage move as I was climbing up the steep mountains and nearly freaking out as I was going downhill trying to steer everything. Poor Josh (my brother) had a tough job trying to keep me calm through all of this. After 3 days of driving and extremely exhausted, we finally arrived at my new apartment in Santa Monica, 3 blocks from the beach - and all my furniture intact. I was sad to see Josh leave just after 4th of July, especially since I haven't lived more than 4 hours away from friends or family!!

My new roomate, Ash Christian, director of Fat Girls and I are now enjoying our place. I love the lifestyle here - as I take FULL advantage of walking around and hate when I have to get into the car to drive into the city....which really isn't that far. I am 3 blocks from the 3rd Street Promenade with all the restaurants and shops and 3 blocks from the beach. Not too shabby ;-) You are welcome to visit me anytime you want!

Another thing I am involved with right now is writing a children's book with a special someone in New York City - called THE PIRATE AND THE MERMAID. It's a unique and touching story based on a real story about two people overcoming their own obstacles and finding themselves within each other. A band called The Intersession is also writing rock and roll music to go along with the story. It's a wonderful project. Once we get something close to final, I will send to everyone.

Take care!
- KIM

FAT GIRLS - in Tribeca Film Festival NYC`

FINALLY!!!! I have news to report regarding FAT GIRLS!! Our world premiere is going to be in the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL!!!! We knew about this back in January, but had to keep it a secret until the festival announced the lineup.

I arrived in New York on Friday (day before yesterday) to get BUZY working on promoting the FOUR screenings we have in the festival. The buzz is definitely out there and we are all very excited. Ash and I feel like we're in pre-production mode because we have so much to do and it's all so exciting!

We worked VERY hard up to this point and it's only the beginning. Finally all of our work is paying off.

If you are in NEW YORK or KNOW someone in the city, please pass them along to our website:www.fatgirlsmovie.com

CIAO!

Is it 2006? Oh my

The new year is here.....I have a good feeling about it, but it's off to a slow start. I spent the new year in Sin City, which could have gotten really crazy, but it turned out just fine. Over 350K people filled Las Vegas Blvd. Fireworks in almost every direction...pretty exciting. I made a New Years resolution in 2000 that I have stuck with every year. I must spend New Years Eve in a different city for the rest of my life, and suburbs of cities don't count. 2000 was Dallas (I was oncall for Y2K), 2001 - New York City, 2002 - London, 2003 - Jackson Hole, WY, 2004 - New Orleans, 2005 - San Francisco. I would have to say Jackson Hole was the nicest thus far because it was the most low-key and we got to sit in a jaccuzzi surrounded by mountains and snow.

Even though it's a slow start to the new year, I did get voted onto the board of Women In Film of Dallas recently, as PSA chair. I may have come on a tad bit strong at the first board meeting, wanting to make drastic changes for the coming year, but hey, I kind of have that speeding bullet personality, esp when it comes to working on a production.

I wish I had a great update on Fat Girls, but I don't yet. Cross your fingers! We are talking to some great people about having it in an awesome festival....don't want to jinx it yet. Will announce from rooftops as soon as we know.

Not much else to report....thanks for reading ;-)

Peace out.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://hearnoevilfilms.blogspot.com/2006/01/is-it-2006-oh-my.html' title='Is it 2006? We work hard and we PLAY hard too!

After a wild and wacky Halloween in LA - (pix to be posted soon) - I took off to La Jolla to visit some friends. They have a beautiful house on a hill with a view of the ocean - very relaxing and pretty....a great place to recuperate post-partying. I also met with Karl to fine tune the LAILA edit in Hermosa Beach, which is a more hippy, artsy side of LA. Of course the weather is always amazing there -- sunny and perfectly between cool and hot.

We had a session on Thursday night with the composer, Chris Gubisch, - and I just love sitting there while they create music on the fly that works so well with the film. Chris is also the composer for 39 Pounds of Love, and he's incredible. We also finalized some tunes with our music supervisor, Joan, who also found some very inexpensive gems to replace some of the popular temp songs there now.

Lastly, we spent the last two days at AFM - American Film Market - what a wild, wild place. . It's great to network, but it's more for B-movies or Horror film sales, not indie films or Hollywood films. Totally not my cup of tea. So much business and testosterone thrown around in there......but this is why I left the corporate world - it just bored me to tears. HOWEVER, not to knock any of it, this is a side of the business that has to get done - where deals are made (getting money for future films and selling completed films). I do have an MBA, so I understand it all. I just prefer to be a part of it once the money is in place - and make the films.

I did meet some very interesting people -- hopefully ones that I will make movies with in the near future. That's what it's all about ;-)

Hallowood Trick-or-Treat

Hola!

I have been somewhat busy the past two weeks as we had a wonderful screening of 39 Pounds of Love in Dallas. I was able to spend a ton of time with Ami (the 39 Lb guy), and the rest of the gang. Dani and Asaf came to stay with me and we all hung out the night before and the night of the screening, had a good time. After 2 years of knowing them and travelling with them to Mexico City, LA, and New York, I feel as if they are family. I hope to visit them in Israel someday. We open in theaters all across the country beginning Nov 23 - so make sure to check it out on the website: www.39poundsoflove.com and go see the movie!!!

Of course, where am I, but in LA for Halloween? Weather is awesome, as always. I am going out on the town tonight with Ash and his fabulous friend, Parker. Ash is going as Dolly Parton on crack - this hidious wig and white leather fringed jacket...of course the ta-ta's. I am attempting to go as the Julia Robert's prostitute from Pretty Woman. Got the whole getup - thigh-high leather boots, the hat, blonde wig, short skirt and dinner jacket. I already have the long curly red hair once I take wig off....Only one problem -- I don't have the legs! The thigh high boots do that, go up to my thighs, but then the skirt (it can't get any shorter) covers any leg I have......so I ditched the much-loved boots and went with more comfortable knee-high boots. I don't think people will get who I am, but I won't look like me, and isn't that the point of Halloween - to be something/someone else?

Alrighty - I get the rest of the week out here in LA - going to San Diego for a couple of days to visit a friend. Gonna be fun!

R.I.P.

Back from Paris!

Bonjour tout le monde!

I am back in the states and recovering from a cold. My phone has been ringing off the hook, nonstop!

It was an awesome experience working with the crew and cast in Paris. We shot for two days at a bar - it was funny. I had to flirt with the owners and some people there in order to let us take over the bar for two nights at no cost. Luckily it was a pretty dead bar anyway. I had three marriage proposals before it was all over with (of course they want to marry someone for a greencard!). The last night we shot on the rooftop of a hotel with an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower and Sacre-Coeur (my favorite place in Paris). It was cold, but very beautiful. The next day we watched dailies and I was very happy - it was better than I thought. I hope to work on more film productions in la vie en rose!

It's great to be home for a little while.....here are some pix below from the shoot. The first day I arrived we had meetings with the crew. I was exhausted but very excited to be in Paris producing a short film. Everyone here has been working so hard getting things ready. We are shooting on location at a bar and a rooftop. I had to deliver insurance papers to them the day before yesterday -- very interesting. The rooftop is not so safe, so we've neen scrambling to find another one --- the Fat Girls production totally loosened me up on this kind of stuff, I don't panic so much. I know it will all work out and be great. The editor of Fat Girls, Karl (see previous posts) has agreed to edit, so I am excited to work with him again.

Other than that, I have been spending time with my longtime French friend, Virginie and her partner, Stephanie. Last night they took me on a boat ride on the Seine from the Eiffel Tower. Weather is very nice here, not hot or cold....it was very beautiful. We went to eat at a French restaurant...it was so funny. These two waiters overheard me say, "Help me eat this" to my friend when I got my huge creme brulee desert.....they said, "Ok, we'll help", and dove into my dessert with their spoons and ate some! I just about fell over laughing.

Today and tomorrow are relatively free days, so I will go to my favorite place in Paris today - Sacre-Couer and Montmartre. I climb the chappell everytime I come here, it's a very peaceful place to be.

I love this city, and despite what everyone says about the French - everywhere I go, if I have a map, someone always offers me their assistance without me even asking. I always make an effort to try to speak French with them, and I think that gains their respect right off the bat....but then again, a deaf girl trying to speak French, they quickly bust out the English after hearing my horrible accent.

Au revoir. A beintot.

F&%$#@G Proud to be THIRTY!!

Yep -- I turned 30 years old on Sunday, day before Labor Day. I think the reason why I haven't posted in SOOO long is because I have been so busy dreading the BIG 3-0! I was depressed when I turned 25 because it was halfway to 30, so you can imagine how I felt. But, I am embracing it.....I had a great birthday! Ash was coming in town for post work on Fat Girls, so I conveniently scheduled him to be here for the big night. We stayed at a great hotel - Magnolia Hotel, downtown Dallas and we hit the town until 5 AM. Went out with a group of people, but it was nice to end up with just Ash and I in the end....we always have a good time together.Thank goodness we live so far away, we party way too hard together, but he left today and I miss him :-(

So - for the past six weeks since I posted, I have been a travelling freak! I spent 3 weeks in New York City staying in Williamsburg by myself working on 39 Lbs of Love -- putting private events together. I had a good time. Met a great girl - we'll be friends for a long time. It was soo friggin hot there, I was ready to go home. Then I came to Dallas for 4 days, then off to LA for the premiere of 39 Lbs at the Arclight- which went really well, we sold out a couple of shows. I stayed with Ash, so that's always groovy. I felt like we were dormmates because I slept on his futon right next to his bed....luckily we didn't get into TOO much trouble ;-) So, after a week in LA, I came back to Dallas...and then a few days later some family from New Orleans stayed at my house. We added 6 people and 3 more big dogs on top of my two dogs and two cats. It was the least we could do....and they are all fine. One of the houses was flooded, so some are staying here for a while.

And then - for the birthday present to myself, I am going to PARIS this Sunday for 10 days to work on a short film that I am producing. I am sooo excited. It's been my dream to make a film in Paris. A director that I met at NEWFEST in New York back in June is directing it and pretty much taking care of everything.

So this week, Ash and I worked on Fat GIrls -- getting the audio and picture to a point where we are both happy with it. I am excited about it and I think we're ready to send it off to festivals now. YAY!

I think that's all for now. I found out they have free wireless at STARBUCKS in Paris, so I have no excuse not to post another update from Paris. Until then......

Back to New York Baby!

It's been a long while since I've posted. I am just not a "diary" sort a gal......

I am off to the Big Apple for almost 3 weeks this time! Very exciting. I am going to be helping out my friends on the doc 39 Lbs of Love, working for them to promote the tour of the film and the subject of the film, Ami. I've never met Ami, who is travelling from Israel for the tour.

It's the longest time I will spend in NYC, then the week after I will be heading out to LA for the International Documentary Association festival to help out there as well. It's all fun and good. I am sure I will be travelled-out by the end of August.

I am also working on a feature film version of the short film, Standing Room Only, which went to several festivals. It'll be centered around "Edna Jean Robinson" as in the short film, but the story will be a little different. Richard Curtin who plays Edna Jean is so talented, I just couldn't pass this up and it's so much fun to work with this type of material.

Ash is also working on E.A.T. - a great story about a kid who tries to overeat himself to death in protest against the town who won't let him play the lead role in the play, Annie. It's an evolving story and we hope to do this as our next project together by the time FAT GIRLS comes out.

Checkout Filmmaker Magazine this issue --- there is a little article in there about FAT GIRLS.

Next time I write, I will report on how things are going in my favorite city - NYC!

Peace.

SUMMER FEVER!!!

Aloha......I wish...to be in Hawaii right now would be amazing! Otherwise I am in Texas, in the stiffling heat, no beach.....just flat, concrete, buildings. OK, that sounds depressing.

Anyway, I am moving on to bigger and better things. I have decided to pass on the torch as the director of the DFW Group of IndieClub. It was time after 3 years. I did grow the group from 20 - nearly 700 members during that time. I learned so much. Tomorrow is my last offical day as the group director.

Check out the latest INDIESLATE article (www.indieslate.com) - an article about FAT GIRLS that I wrote is in it.

Last, but certainly not least -- we scored an amazing producers rep, Ronna Wallace, for Fat Girls, which was the sole purpose of our trip to NYC. She was exec prod of films like RESEVOIR DOGS. She was VP of Acquisitions for companies like Samuel Goldwyn and Live Entertainment (Now Lionsgate). She also repped OPEN WATER which was in Sundance 2004 and sold to Lionsgate. We are VERY happy to have her on board....she rocks!

Anyway, nothing much else is going on.

Keep rockin'!

- KIM

Reeling from NEW YORK!

Just got back at 3:00 Am this morning from NYC. What a friggin crazy time! My short film screened as part of NEWFEST, which got really good reception there. Ash and I went to a ton of festival parties and met some great people. I LOVE New York. NYC fits me more than any other city.

The icing on the cake was our rough cut screening at the awesome Tribeca Grand Hotel. The screening was sponsored by a great group called STELLAR NETWORK. We had free popcorn and beer....the reaction from the audience was very positive. Many people laughed at all the right places....we even had a total laugh out loud moment with people clapping.

We met with a gazillion producers reps and some high profile ones after the screening who want to be involved with the film....there is one rep we REALLY want, so cross your fingers!

This week it's securing a rep. I also have several meetings for other projects lined up....so we shall see.

Sorry to take so long to blog.....I will try to be a better blogger.

CIAO,
KIM

More Texas indie movies

I am a bad, bad blogger.....not posted in a while. Lots of things going on right now. Looks like I am going to be producing another project to be filmed out of Austin this year. I am excited about working with this group of people. I like CRAZY ARTSY people, and that is what this group is. The guy who edited FAT GIRLS will be directing it, and Ash will be playing a lead role in it. OF course, this time we will have a little bit of money, so that's all good.

The two movies I was PM for Lifetime fell through.....still waiting to get paid for the 1 month I did work on it. Crazy, this is just that kind of business.

We are still in post-prod for FAT GIRLS. We are working on sound and color corrections. I got an AWESOME post sound house here in town, D&D Productions and am stoked to be working with them.

ANYWAY, not much else to report. My house is rocking these days. I spent most of the weekend trying to make it prettier.

CIAO FOR NOW!
PEACE - KIM

New York City BA-BY!

Ash and I were planning a trip to New York for beg of June to show the film around and then I get the notification this morning that my little short film was accepted to NEWFEST - one of the largest Gay and Lesbian film festivals and guess when the festival is?....beg of June. It's an inside joke, but pretty funny when 20 year old Ash Christian yells (mostly jokingly), "God Damnit Karl" when Karl flubs, and Karl is like 3...well, older than Ash. Ok, maybe it's not as funny reading it. However KUDOS to Karl and Ash for getting the picture locked. It's awesome.

We spent Monday afternoon taking a breather at the Standard Hotel at downtown - it's a must see for anyone visiting. Totally amazing....see pictures of our adventure below. I've been back in Dallas, and getting ready to go to some local meetings for post-sound production tomorrow. We have several post houses interested, but we need to go with the place that is most passionate about the project. I don't think this is going to be difficult, but it's a challenge when you have NO MONEY. Lovely, but we got this far, which is a helluva lot.

Also - the film I associate produced, 39 Lbs of Love won the Palm Beach Int'l Fest last week for best documentary and the jury actually quoted as saying that the film should be nominated for an academy award. It's in Indie Wire online....I am really excited and happy for the producer/director Dani Menkin - he spent the past 3.5 years of his life working on this film. It deserves great success.

Ciao! - KIM

<img border='0' style='border:1px solid #000000; Today is Monday morning, early for LA (8 AM) and really early Dallas time (6 AM). This weekend, Ash, Karl (editor) and I have been working on getting Fat Girls fine-tuned and picture locked. I had to be a mean and responsible producer when Karl asked after working several hours on Sat to bring some beer while we finish working. I said NO, let's just keep going and not lose the momentum. So....as a result, Ash and I saw it all the way through for the first time last night and it is absolutely fucking brilliant. We looked at each other and couldn't believe the hour and a half went by so quickly. The changes we made over the weekend make the movie that much better. Of course, it's like performing open-heart surgery on your child (ash's child, my adopted child) when you have to cut out all the scenes that just aren't good enough.....now the baby is going to live a good, long life.

We went out last night afterwards and discussed a possible new project that Karl wants to do in Texas.....it sounds kick-ass and I am looking forward to working on it.

Next step is post-sound, we have an important meeting with a post-sound house tonight and we'll watch the film with them. Cross your fingers! -- Peace out.

Not enough hours in the day

Hi there,

Well, I need to catch up to Ash - he got his blog started just after I did and he's been posting everyday. I don't think I will post everyday, but maybe more than just once per week.

We got the rough cut and it is great! It needs work, hence that is why it's called a 'rough' cut. Heading out to LA this weekend to make changes and lock the picture. It's going to be a great flick when it's done. We're still getting tons of press on it, check out Modern Luxury Magazine (Jeremy Pivens is on the cover -- "obnoxious manager from the HBO show Entourage". I wrote an article that will be in the next issue of INDIE SLATE Mag - www.indieslate.com

I hate to be in front of the camera, which is why I love producing -- but check out the picture in INDIE WIRE. I am in the pic below the one of Martin Scorcese! http://www.indiewire.com/onthescene/onthescene_050415full.html

I am the fattest one on the left, of course. My mom just lost weight with some new diet, so I am starting it soon.....if I am going to be in front of the camera, I need to be somewhat presentable. I have a feeling FAT GIRLS is going to be a festival hit, which means producers and directors get press.....agh. I better get in shape quick.

Oh - on another note, I am working hard as a PM for these two films that are supposedly going to be on lifetime. We film in Dallas June and July with a much larger budget than I have worked with before, it's weird not having to beg people to work for zilch! a nice change.

Ok, I am probably boring everyone to tears. Tata for now. We are going to spend about a week with the rough cut and then it's back to editing for picture lock. Last time I was in LA, I only saw 35 minutes, I am anxious to see the entire picture. From what I had seen our FABULOUS editor do in such a short time was amazing. I was surprised at how good and how funny the movie actually is. (You can read the articles on film's website to understand the hell we had to go through to make this movie)

I just got back from the Full Frame Doc Film Festival for the world premiere of 39 Lbs of Love - a feature doc that I am assoc producer on. HBO/Cinemax bought the film a while back. It was a good premiere, but we had a crappy 9:00 AM Saturday screening slot and a really bad location for the screening, but even with all that, we still had a sold-out screening of 350 people and we were the only film that got a standing ovation at the festival. We worked our asses of promoting the film....I learned so much and know what we need to do when FAT GIRLS hits the ground running.

Anyway, I have actual work to do.....more laterz. Peace out.
